The Chair will promote the following activities:

  1. TRAINING field:


The Universidad CEU San Pablo-Mutua Madrileña Chair was created with the desire and interest to promote and encourage teaching and research in the field of actuarial sciences, with two important strategic objectives:

  • To contribute to the training of qualified professionals in business risk management, essential knowledge nowadays in such uncertain globalised environment where changes are constant.
  • To encourage the transfer of knowledge in risk management and insurance from the University to society

The Chair promoted by Universidad CEU San Pablo School of Economics and Business will focus the activities related to Corporate Governance and female Leadership in the field of financial and insurance entities and the risk analysis on to the promotion of research, teaching, training and dissemination activities in this field with a multidisciplinary and international character.


2. RESEARCH field:

  • To promote lines of research within the School of Economics and Business, in the field of Corporate Governance, Risk Management and Female Leadership.
  • To organise scientific conferences and seminars.
  • To disseminate research results through working papers and, with the ultimate aim of obtaining external and international recognition, through publication in leading journals. 
  • Doctoral scholarship to carry out the Doctoral Thesis within the lines related to the objectives of the Chair, which can be consulted at the CEINDO. 
  • MUTUA MADRILEÑA award to the best End of Degree Project in the School of Economics and Business. 

In order to achieve these objectives, the Chair is structured as follows:

  • Director: Dr. Ms Carmen Calderón Patier. Professor of Applied Economics.

    Its role will be to promote, plan and execute the activities, represent the Chair and control the results through its participation in the Monitoring Committee and with the annual presentation of the relevant Activities Report.
  • Coordinator: Dr. Ms. Ruth Mateos de Cabo. Professor of Commercialisation and Market Research. She will focus on the organisation, management and execution of the research and teaching activities carried out by the Chair.

  • Monitoring Committee: it will be composed of USPCEU and Mutua Madrileña members and they will gather together to approve activities and ensure the achievement of the established objectives. Its members are:

    • USPCEU Vice-Rector for Academic Programmes: Dr. Ms. Cristina l. Masa Lorenzo

Researchers and Lines of research

The main objective of this line in Corporate Governance and Risk Management is to analyse and contrast the most adequate practices for business management, as well as the study of the impact and development of new technologies. The fundamental aspects to be studied in this line of research are as follows:

  • Good practices of corporate governance: social corporate responsibility and normative compliance.
  • Administrative body: configuration and responsibility.
  • Insurances:  risks inherent to the insurance business.
  • Technology: Legaltech, Insurtech and Fintech.
  • Financial analysis: implications of financial, accounting, fiscal and legal regulations in business management and their effect on business and reputational risk.
  • Macro-finances: causality between financial markets and macroeconomic variables.
  • Asset valuation: risk-adjusted valuation methodologies, including credit and liquidity risk.

The main objective of the Female Leadership line of research is to address the study of the gender gap in corporate leadership positions in an innovative and multidisciplinary way, shedding light on the reasons why there are barriers to equity in these positions, and studying and proposing specific policies to promote women's professional careers.

This general objective is broken down into a number of specific purposes:

  • Study of the characteristic features of female leaders.
  • Analysis of women's career difficulties arising from problems with work-life balance and co-responsibility.
  • Identification of biases in the selection processes of women managers and directors.
  • Contrasting the possible existence of restrictions on access to credit for female entrepreneurs.
  • To analyse whether women have fewer career obstacles in the third sector.
  • Check the influence of women on boards of directors.
  • Study the institutional mechanisms that help or inhibit the promotion of female leaders in business.
  • Study and evaluate the specific regulations for the professional promotion of female managers.
