Universidad CEU San Pablo and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), through its Madrid provincial office, have signed a collaboration agreement as part of the “Smoke- and Aerosol-Free Spaces” program, which aims to promote healthier university environments and help prevent smoking. The agreement was signed by the university rector and the executive director of CEU USP, Rosa Visiedo and Carmen García de Elías, respectively, and the president of the AECC’s Madrid Provincial Board, Jaime Salaverri.

The agreement provides for the University’s collaboration in disseminating the AECC’s prevention messages and a commitment to move forward with a smoking ban in the outdoor areas of its three campuses. It also calls for the installation of signage labeled “Smoke- and Aerosol-Free Spaces,” featuring the logos of both institutions. The AECC will provide resources and tools for marking these areas, as well as training sessions, information on smoking prevention, and guidance on services to help people quit smoking.

This agreement is part of the University’s commitment to promoting health, preventing disease, and creating environments that foster the well-being of the entire university community. For its part, the collaboration with the AECC will help raise awareness about the effects of smoking and exposure to smoke and aerosols in shared spaces.

The initiative was spearheaded and coordinated by Professor Isabel Adoración Martín Antoniano of the CEU Institute for Addiction Studies, who served as the liaison between the two institutions to facilitate the development, approval, and formalization of the agreement. This process has been supported by Antonio Piñas Mesa and Luis Fernando Alguacil Merino, co-directors of the institute. On behalf of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Estíbaliz García Rodríguez of AECC Madrid has coordinated this collaboration, serving as the point of contact throughout the various phases of the project’s development.
