WHY CHOOSE THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN JOURNALISM AT CEU?
  1. Studies in journalism began right here.
    • The first School of Journalism in Spain: the school “El Debate” was formed in 1926 and was the birth of journalism studies at the Universidad CEU San Pablo.
    • University studies in journalism since 1975, and as a Private University since 1993.
  2. For the international vocation:
    • We have more than 70 exchange agreements with universities in 25 countries in Europe and around the world, where our students can complete Erasmus or Bilateral programs as part of their degree.
    • The Universidad CEU San Pablo is also the only educational institution in Spain where it is possible to study the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism entirely in English*.
    • In addition to these possibilities for internationalization, there is also the International Bilingual Program between CEU and UCLA University of Los Angeles, California
    • International Week is held each year for international students. During this week, 15 professors from universities around the world teach master classes on communication-related subjects.
*Except the language, end-of-degree project and company internship subject
  3. Two degrees in only 5 years. You can combine your Journalism studies with degrees in Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and PR, Digital Communication, Humanities, History, Law and Economics.
  4. For the high levels of employability of our students: according to the most recent study, the employability rate for students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism at the Universidad CEO San Pablo is above 75%.
  5. As a compulsory subject on the curriculum you will complete a professional internship. The Careers Department in the University has signed more than one thousand agreements with companies in the field of communication: including RNE, TVE, Grupo Atresmedia (Antena 3, Onda Cero, etc.), Mediaset (Telecinco, Cuatro), La Sexta, Telemadrid, Cadena COPE, Cadena SER, Grupo Unidad Editorial (El Mundo, Marca, Expansión, Telva, etc.), ABC, La Razón, Agencia EFE, Europa Press, and with other companies in various sectors such as Repsol, Telefónica, BBVA, etc.

  1. Practical workshops of the subjects in small groups (12 students) in the Audiovisual Center:

PROFILE OF NEW STUDENTS

To define the ideal profile of new students who wish to be accepted onto this degree, we consider the final educational objectives that we aim to achieve:

  • Students. They must have a special interest in understanding the world and the global society in which they live, as well as social, political and intellectual inquisitiveness. They must be aware of the current situation around them and have an interest in the new media and the challenges and innovations they pose. Their ability to work individually, as part of a team and their communicative capacity are also important. Therefore, in the selection process, we focus on the candidate’s motivation and abilities in relation to the above requirements. It is also necessary to have skills for oral and written expression in any medium, as well as for the dissemination of culture through the media.
  • Future professionals. At the end of this degree, students will have developed a high cultural level, enhanced by technological knowledge associated with the world of communication. They will be able to master the characteristic professional language and be familiar with the structure of the sector. To this end, the training is provided in an essential and systematic way with a continuous link between the subjects which, far from being compartmentalized, form part of an overall knowledge plan. This is the only way to guarantee the multidisciplinary training that will allow the journalists trained at the Universidad CEU San Pablo to adjust to the multi-platform profile that is increasingly in demand within the market.
  • Training. The Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, as indicated beforehand, is the outcome of comprehensive training. This implies that, in addition to having a theory-based and systematic structure, it is practical and engaging, covering the necessary studies to teach students how to use technical tools; but also essential studies so that they know how to communicate and do so in a way that is comprehensible to others. In order to consolidate both fields, students must possess the basic skill such as reading comprehension, the flair for written and spoken expression; as well as, of course, a vocation to provide a service to society.

This degree is aimed at students who have completed the high school diploma in the Art, Social Sciences or Science and Technology areas of study, or those with secondary or higher education in these specialties, to ensure the planned learning objectives can be met.

Internships

External academic internships are an unquestionably effective way to enter the labor market. They are a beneficial instrument for a student, who has the opportunity to acquire skills and competences that only a real work environment can provide. They are also equally useful for the companies and institutions, who can train candidates according to their internal development needs. A high percentage of students who do internships are recruited by the entities themselves to cover their personnel needs.

The student of the Degree in Journalism will have 6 ECTS of curricular practices that have the objective of enabling the student to integrate him or herself professionally, and in an essentially practical way, in the field of journalism and communication.

The Degree in Journalism offers a wide range of professional options, especially in the private sector, both nationally and internationally: Press, radio, television and news media, institutional communication, etc.

Mobility

ERASMUS +

Students of this Degree can participate in an international mobility within the Erasmus + Program of the European Commission or through Bilateral Agreements of exchange agreed between the CEU San Pablo University and other foreign Universities.

The recommended period for this mobility is usually at the end of the Degree, during the last years. Moreover, the number of international students who choose the CEU for their education is increasing, so there is an international environment throughout the University.

OUTGOING STUDENTS

The student of this Degree will have international relations coordinators, who will have the task of orienting the students about the existing agreements for their degree program and accompany them throughout the mobility process.

Likewise, we will advise you on the convenience or non-convenience of travelling to certain destinations, according to the circumstances and context of the place, looking for an alternative of mobility, both virtual and face-to-face.

INCOMING STUDENTS: BLENDED MOBILITY

Since the 2020-21 academic year, the equipment in our classrooms, the interactive teaching methodology and the new technologies allow the incoming students to take part in blended mobilities at the CEU San Pablo University, combining a virtual semester with a face-to-face one.

All information regarding mobility is provided by the Vice-Rectorate of International Relations through its website and the mobility office.

Currently the mobility offer of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has risen to more than 100 exchange agreements with Universities from more than 25 countries, where our students can participate in a mobility throughout their Degree in Journalism. The international vocation has always been present at our University: not in vane, our tradition in teaching Journalism started with the decision of our founder, the servant of God Ángel Herrera Oria, to send the future professors of the School of Journalism (Escuela de Periodismo de El Debate) to the Columbia University in the first years of the 20th Century.

Today, the CEU-UCLA Program, consolidates what is a constant in our University: quality teaching in the field of communication. This highly demanding program is carried out at the UCLA Extension, one of the most prestigious Schools in the field of communication. It is a complement to our international program and it is highly recommended for those who want a specific education in audiovisual communication at a North American university. The CEU-Boston University Program is also a great option for our students.

INTERNATIONALIZATION AT HOME: CEU GLOBAL CLASSROOM AND COIL METHODOLOGY

An international university is also an interconnected university in its broader sense. Therefore, the CEU Educational Group is developing a new educational strategy, based on internationalization at home, through the innovative COIL projects.

COIL is the acronym for Collaborative Online International Learning, a pioneer interactive methodology. It consists of digital classes between professors from two different universities and countries, which allows bringing the experience of global learning to a wider spectrum of students, regardless of their geographical location and without leaving home.

The COIL modules are born from the collaboration of our Schools with other international centers for the development of common digital projects, integrated into the study plans, ensuring that they are adapted to the CEU methodology and to the academic needs of our students.

We have international COIL projects in all the Schools, in our two campuses; partners in the United States, Europe, Latin America, etc. Our experience in pedagogical innovation and internationalization is our best guarantee.

Contact us if you belong to a foreign university and want to be a partner of the USP-CEU in the design and implementation of COIL projects.
