We train versatile professionals with an international vocation who are capable of professionally managing information in a world where media is advancing at an unstoppable rate.

Studying the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism requires an interest in understanding the world and society in which you live. If you have social, political and intellectual inquisitiveness or if you are interested in finding about the current situation and the challenges posed by new digital media, then this is the degree for you.

WHY CHOOSE THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN JOURNALISM AT CEU?
  1. Studies in journalism began right here.
    • The first School of Journalism in Spain: the school “El Debate” was formed in 1926 and was the birth of journalism studies at the Universidad CEU San Pablo.
    • University studies in journalism since 1975, and as a Private University since 1993.
  2. For the international vocation:
    • We have more than 70 exchange agreements with universities in 25 countries in Europe and around the world, where our students can complete Erasmus or Bilateral programs as part of their degree.
    • The Universidad CEU San Pablo is also the only educational institution in Spain where it is possible to study the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism entirely in English*.
    • In addition to these possibilities for internationalization, there is also the International Bilingual Program between CEU and UCLA University of Los Angeles, California
    • International Week is held each year for international students. During this week, 15 professors from universities around the world teach master classes on communication-related subjects.
*Except the language, end-of-degree project and company internship subject
  3. Two degrees in only 5 years. You can combine your Journalism studies with degrees in Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and PR, Digital Communication, Humanities, History, Law and Economics.
  4. For the high levels of employability of our students: according to the most recent study, the employability rate for students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism at the Universidad CEO San Pablo is above 75%.
  5. As a compulsory subject on the curriculum you will complete a professional internship. The Careers Department in the University has signed more than one thousand agreements with companies in the field of communication: including RNE, TVE, Grupo Atresmedia (Antena 3, Onda Cero, etc.), Mediaset (Telecinco, Cuatro), La Sexta, Telemadrid, Cadena COPE, Cadena SER, Grupo Unidad Editorial (El Mundo, Marca, Expansión, Telva, etc.), ABC, La Razón, Agencia EFE, Europa Press, and with other companies in various sectors such as Repsol, Telefónica, BBVA, etc.

  1. Practical workshops of the subjects in small groups (12 students) in the Audiovisual Center:
    • Interconnected facilities with a 32TB shared storage system, equipped with 2 TV studios (one with a conventional set-up and one virtual), 2 radio stations, 3 editing and post-production suites, RTV and photography production areas, with free loan service.
    • Fully updated technical equipment, with 23 HD-quality ENG video cameras and 4K and 360º formats.
    • Free equipment loan service and reservation of facilities for class work, end-of-degree project and personal study.
    • 4 graphic and digital design laboratories.
  2. Personal learning platform OnCEULab:
    • This is a space for professional practice where you can develop your talent and contribute your own ideas.
    • A fully digital medium (press, radio and television) developed by students and supervised by professors.
    • Its capacity reaches an audience beyond the university community itself, with interviews, debates, reports, etc. This is where you will take your first steps to becoming a journalist.
    • OnCEULab was awarded the MediaLover 2017 prize for Best New Media.
  3. Fostering entrepreneurship: with the launch of the CEU Emprende Business Competition and the Entrepreneurial Club. This project, which works with a start-up accelerator, aims to promote entrepreneurial culture and develop the knowledge and skills needed to be an entrepreneur.
PROFILE OF NEW STUDENTS

To define the ideal profile of new students who wish to be accepted onto this degree, we consider the final educational objectives that we aim to achieve:

  1. Students. They must have a special interest in understanding the world and the global society in which they live, as well as social, political and intellectual inquisitiveness. They must be aware of the current situation around them and have an interest in the new media and the challenges and innovations they pose. Their ability to work individually, as part of a team and their communicative capacity are also important. Therefore, in the selection process, we focus on the candidate’s motivation and abilities in relation to the above requirements. It is also necessary to have skills for oral and written expression in any medium, as well as for the dissemination of culture through the media.
  1. Future professionals. At the end of this degree, students will have developed a high cultural level, enhanced by technological knowledge associated with the world of communication. They will be able to master the characteristic professional language and be familiar with the structure of the sector. To this end, the training is provided in an essential and systematic way with a continuous link between the subjects which, far from being compartmentalized, form part of an overall knowledge plan. This is the only way to guarantee the multidisciplinary training that will allow the journalists trained at the Universidad CEU San Pablo to adjust to the multi-platform profile that is increasingly in demand within the market.
  2. Training. The Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, as indicated beforehand, is the outcome of comprehensive training. This implies that, in addition to having a theory-based and systematic structure, it is practical and engaging, covering the necessary studies to teach students how to use technical tools; but also essential studies so that they know how to communicate and do so in a way that is comprehensible to others. In order to consolidate both fields, students must possess the basic skill such as reading comprehension, the flair for written and spoken expression; as well as, of course, a vocation to provide a service to society.

This degree is aimed at students who have completed the high school diploma in the Art, Social Sciences or Science and Technology areas of study, or those with secondary or higher education in these specialties, to ensure the planned learning objectives can be met.
