Humanities

The Department of Humanities has three sections: History and History of Art; Literature and Thought and Languages. It currently has 85 teaching staff, 60% of whom hold PhDs and are accredited, with a total of 36 six-year periods and 157 five-year periods between them. It is a Department that teaches in all the faculties of our University, participating in its bilingual and international programmes.

The teaching experience of the professors is complemented by a solid research work reflected in the participation of the members of the Department in numerous research projects, both internally and externally funded and in collaboration with other institutions. The academic excellence of the lecturers is also endorsed by their numerous scientific publications and their participation in national and international conferences, often resulting from stays in Spanish and foreign universities and research centres.

Audiovisual Communication and Advertising

Founded in the 1995/1996 academic year, the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising is made up of a teaching staff of more than fifty lecturers, most of whom hold PhDs, many of whom combine academic and professional activity in the field of Communication. The specific subjects of the Degrees in Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations and Digital Communication depend on this department and its lecturers are responsible for teaching the different subjects that make up the area of knowledge: cinema, institutional communication, creativity, design, photography, digital communication, marketing, new technologies, advertising, radio, public relations, television, etc.

Likewise, from the research point of view, the members of the teaching staff participate in different research projects with external and internal funding, are members of the research groups ICOIDI (Communication through image and design), INCIRTV (media convergence) and the Observatory of Corporate Social Responsibility Communication (Ocare); as well as participating in the Centre for Communication Trends of the University. The department is also responsible for the management of the SAI CARTV (Radio and Television Laboratories of the Audiovisual Centre), which like the rest of the University's Research Support Services offers specialised facilities and materials to facilitate research activity.

Finally, many of its professors are members of national and international professional and research associations such as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, ACOP, AE-IC, ANIGP-TV, APM-FAPE, ASOCREA, CEC, DIRCOM, ECREA, ICA, SEP, Signis, DIMAD, etc.

In addition, the Faculty of Humanities and Communication Sciences is a member of the Spanish Association of Universities with Degrees in Information and Communication (ATIC).

Journalism

The Department of Journalism is made up of 31 professors, most of them accredited doctors who belong to three areas of knowledge: Journalism, Spanish Language and Library and Information Science. In addition, there are three emeritus professors of recognised prestige.

This Department was founded in the 1995/1996 academic year and from the beginning has had professors who combine teaching with their professional practice in various media, such as the director of the ABC newspaper, Bieito Rubido, the editorialist of El País, Jorge Marirrodriga, and the director of Innovation at Vocento, Borja Bergareche. In terms of research, the Department's professors have sixteen recognised six-year periods and participate in various research projects, both in R&D groups awarded in public calls and in research groups funded internally or in collaboration with other institutions. Likewise, the lecturers of the Department belong as members of Editorial Boards or evaluators to ten scientific journals and are members of professional and research associations such as: AE-IC, ECREA, SEP, AIRP, AEHC, etc.

On the other hand, the Faculty of Humanities and Communication Sciences is a member of the Spanish Association of Universities with Degrees in Information and Communication (ATIC).

The Department of Education is comprised of a team of education professionals with extensive experience in the field of education, as well as in other related and complementary areas. As such, they are committed to providing a more comprehensive and holistic education, characterized by innovation and educational research.

Our department stands out for its commitment to students and its involvement in new projects, aimed at enriching students’ intellectual and personal development. The educational approach we offer is based on personalized tutoring systems with students and regular faculty meetings. Added to this are flexible and innovative teaching-learning strategies, the use of active methodologies in the classroom, the internationalization of our curricula, and innovation projects that connect knowledge with professional practice. Thanks to all of this, we foster the development of cross-cutting competencies in our students through personalized and integrated education utilizing ICT.
