NATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL ACCREDITING BOARD

The Architecture Degree from the CEU San Pablo University has successfully passed the verification process by the NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board), an accreditation that is labelled as International Certification when granted to universities outside the United States.

This accreditation grants architects graduating from our University the necessary qualifications to register as architects in most of the states of the United States, with the same professional rights as the architects with American degrees from NAAB-accredited schools. The CEU San Pablo University has this accreditation since January 1st, 2015.

In order to be evaluated by the NAAB, the Institute of Technology of the University has set up an exhibition and evidence archive where a sample of all the subjects of the degree is collected through the students’ work, the provided subject information, the School's activities and the average performance of the professors. Access the Team Room photo gallery.

DUAL-MODE APPROACH IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021

For the 2020/21 academic year, the CEU San Pablo University has developed a dual-mode approach that allows students to go to class on campus, while also allowing them to connect digitally to the classroom.

To offer this dual-mode approach, the CEU is has equipped its classrooms with the HyFlex system. It is a system to develop interactive sessions with students who are in the classroom and with those who participate live from home. This way, everyone (wherever they are) can participate in the class session in person. This dual-mode approach allows for physical presence or digital interactive presence.

PROFILE OF NEW STUDENTS

To define the ideal profile of new students who wish to be accepted onto this degree, we consider the final educational objectives that we aim to achieve, in three aspects:

  • Students. They must have balanced training in all disciplines inherent to studying architecture, both technical and humanistic. In terms of attitude, they must be willing to strive, both individually and as part of a team, to carry out different projects that are central to the training of architects. Therefore, in the selection process, we focus on the candidate’s motivation and abilities in relation to the above requirements. Other attitudes such as initiative, creativity, responsibility or organization and planning skills are also important.
  • Future professionals. At the end of this degree, students should be future professionals with solid technological, humanistic and artistic skills and an ability to merge them appropriately in their professional development. In addition, proficiency in another modern language such as English is a key factor for their mobility and incorporation into professional international forums. Throughout the degree, students are also provided with the keys to carry out this profession independently, fostering fundamental attitudes such as entrepreneurship.
  • Training. With the aim of the future integration of the student into working life, the degree is the result of comprehensive training. This means that, in addition to being theory-based and systematic, it is also practical and engaging.

The Degree in Architecture focuses on the development of a series of competences of our students that are crucial to their effective career development. With this in mind, we in our University make a significant and renowned effort to achieve them.

Among the most important competences, the following stand out:

  • Acquisition of the ability to create architectural projects that satisfy both aesthetic and technical requirements, as well as the possession of knowledge regarding urban planning, planning in general and applied techniques in the planning process.
  • Critical thinking for the understanding, practice and development of basic and execution projects, sketches and pre-projects; urban projects, and construction management.
  • Learning, applied to architecture and urban planning, of spatial representation systems; of the analysis and theory of form and the laws of visual perception; of metric and projective geometry; of graphic surveying techniques in all their phases (from the drawing of notes to scientific restitution); the principles of general mechanics, statics, mass geometry and vector and tensor fields; the principles of thermodynamics, acoustics and optics; the principles of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, electricity and electromagnetism; the bases of topography, hypsometry and cartography, and techniques required to the modification of the terrain.
  • Learning about the civil, administrative and urban regulations of the building and industry related to professional performance; feasibility analysis, supervision and coordination of integrated projects and property valuation.
  • Development of the ability to carry out safety, evacuation and protection projects in buildings; drafting civil engineering projects; designing and executing urban layouts and urbanisation, gardening and landscape projects; applying urban planning rules and regulations; preparing environmental, landscape and environmental impact correction studies.
  • Understanding the problems of structural understanding, construction and engineering design linked to building projects.
  • Acquisition of adequate knowledge of the problems of physics and different technologies, as well as the function of buildings, so that they are provided with internal conditions of comfort and protection from climatic factors.

Internships

External academic internships are an undeniably effective in order to be successful in the job market. They are a beneficial instrument for the student, who has the opportunity to acquire skills and competences that only a real working environment can provide. They are equally beneficial the participating companies and institutions, which can introduce into university education their knowledge of the everyday work, as well as training candidates according to their internal development needs, given that a high percentage of the students who do internships are recruited by the entities themselves to cover their personnel needs.

MANAGEMENT OF THE INTERNSHIPS

The organisation, regulations and offers of internships can be found on the website of the Careers Department. Students have an office of this department at the Institute, next to the Campus Secretary's Office, where they will be attended to in all matters related to internships.

Mobility

ERASMUS +

Students of this Degree can participate in an international mobility within the Erasmus + Program of the European Commission or through Bilateral Agreements of exchange agreed between the CEU San Pablo University and other foreign Universities.

The recommended period for this mobility is usually at the end of the Degree, during the last years. Moreover, the number of international students who choose the CEU for their education is increasing, so there is an international environment throughout the University.

OUTGOING STUDENTS

The student of this Degree will have international relations coordinators, who will have the task of orienting the students about the existing agreements for their degree program and accompany them throughout the mobility process.

Likewise, we will advise you on the convenience or non-convenience of travelling to certain destinations, according to the circumstances and context of the place, looking for an alternative of mobility, both virtual and face-to-face.

INCOMING STUDENTS: BLENDED MOBILITY

Since the 2020-21 academic year, the equipment in our classrooms, the interactive teaching methodology and the new technologies allow the incoming students to take part in blended mobilities at the CEU San Pablo University, combining a virtual semester with a face-to-face one.

All information regarding mobility is provided by the Vice-Rectorate of International Relations through its website and the mobility office.

 

INTERNATIONALIZATION AT HOME: CEU GLOBAL CLASSROOM AND COIL METHODOLOGY

An international university is also an interconnected university in its broader sense. Therefore, the CEU Educational Group is developing a new educational strategy, based on internationalization at home, through the innovative COIL projects.

COIL is the acronym for Collaborative Online International Learning, a pioneer interactive methodology. It consists of digital classes between professors from two different universities and countries, which allows bringing the experience of global learning to a wider spectrum of students, regardless of their geographical location and without leaving home.

The COIL modules are born from the collaboration of our Schools with other international centers for the development of common digital projects, integrated into the study plans, ensuring that they are adapted to the CEU methodology and to the academic needs of our students.

We have international COIL projects in all the Schools, in our two campuses; partners in the United States, Europe, Latin America, etc. Our experience in pedagogical innovation and internationalization is our best guarantee.

At the CEU San Pablo University, the use and management of the material means and services are carried out under the principles of rationalization and sustainability, which is why several centres and degrees sometimes share them.

The Degree in Architecture is taught at the Institute of Technology, located at the Montepríncipe Campus. It is equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced facilities, which allow the development of the educational objectives. As a result of the commitment to the Quality of the CEU San Pablo University, the Institute of Technology has developed a series of procedures that ensure the continuous review and improvement of all taught official Degrees and Masters, and has established an Internal Quality Assurance System (Sistema de Garantía Interna de la Calidad - SGIC) of the Center.

The body in charge of the monitoring and guaranteeing the quality of the Official Degrees is the Internal Quality Commission (Comisión Interna de Calidad - CIC), which guarantees the presence of the different interest groups in its composition.
