Criminology and Security Sciences

In order to define the ideal profile of the new students who wish to access this degree, we take into account the final educational objectives that we intend to achieve, in three aspects: 

• Students. We want our students to have intellectual curiosity and to be willing to work both personally and as part of a team. In this regard, in the selection process, special attention is paid to the candidates' interaction and dialogue skills. It is also important that the student is able to understand that the subjects are not watertight compartments, but are part of an overall plan or system of knowledge. In this sense, a series of basic skills or abilities are valued, among which the following stand out: comprehensive reading and the ability to interpret texts; a clear interest in research; a high level of motivation; aptitude for work; a great sense of responsibility; an outstanding analytical capacity and, very importantly, a tolerant attitude. Likewise, emphasis is placed on the vocation of service and the idea of justice as a reference value of law, both in its theoretical and practical aspects.
• Future professionals. Candidates must have a solid background. It is intended that, at the end of their training, professionals will have mastered the language of law and the criminal field and will easily understand a basic map of concepts (which will allow them to interpret the legal system and solve the practical problems that arise), as well as know the steps to follow when investigating the scene of a crime. In this way, you will be able to efficiently face and solve the challenges you face.
• Training. This will be of an integral nature, which means that it must be dogmatic -theoretical and systematic-, but also practical and committed. In this context, dialogue, as a learning tool, and the technique of debates are promoted. This training must be, and is, essential and systematic, so that the fundamental concepts can be clearly understood. 

In short, we configure a teaching model that ensures continuous and eminently practical learning, in order to facilitate access to the labor market and social reality.

As for the baccalaureate of origin, it is desirable that the student comes from an option in which specific social subjects have been taken or is a student or graduate from the Social and Legal Sciences.
