Relevant characteristics of the research group (description of the group's activity):

The research group focuses on carrying out projects with a clear traslational orientation. In collaboration with more than 20 national and international clinical and basic groups, it tries to comprehend the mechanisms underlying inflamation, with a focus on patients with severe pathologies. It actively takes part in the Journal of Practical Echocardiography and Other Cardiac Imaging Techniques (RETIC, Revista de Ecocardiografía Práctica y otras técnicas de imagen cardíaca) by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, ARADyAL, coordinating one of its programmes. In collaboration with CEMBIO, it develops projects to search for new biomarkers, using multi-omics approaches. It also cooperates with various pharmaceutical companies and participates in international projects. The analysis of severe allergic pathologies and associated comorbidities has allowed the formulation of new working hypotheses that have given rise to various lines of research. In collaboration with paediatric clinical groups, we study the influence of the microbiome in the genesis of allergy and look for early markers that predict the risk of being allergic. It is worth mentioning the projects focused on understanding the effect of new biological drugs and validation of new biomarkers in clinical practice. The group plays an active role in the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the world's leading medical society in the field of allergy. Tomas Chivato is the Vice-President for Science of EAACI, Domingo Barber is Head of the Scientific Committee and Maria Escribese is the President of the EAACI genomics and proteomics working group.
