In the year of its 25th anniversary, the Institute of Technology (EPS) celebrated the feast of its patron saint, Saint Joseph, with a mass officiated by Father Daniel Rojo and an academic ceremonyact during in which, in addition, awards and recognitions in different categories were presented to teachers, students and collaborating companies and institutions. The director of the School, Santiago de Molina, inaugurated this ceremonymeeting and in which he recalled the value of gratitude, ‘one of the visible pillars on which the University is based’. ‘Researching, teaching and caring would not be possible without you, without the whole community that makes up the EPS’, he pointed out.

Gastón Sanglier, professor of the Area of Construction Engineering, gave the master lecture ‘The Limits of Physics: How muchfar can we know?’. , in which, tThrough a historical and conceptual journey, he reflected on the impact of this discipline in the evolution of humanity and analysed the current state of Physics, its great advances and the enigmas still unsolved.

Sanglier recalled the scientific milestones that have changed our view of the universe, from classical mechanics to quantum mechanics and general relativity. In his speech, the professor highlighted the still unresolved paradoxes such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy, the incompatibility between relativity and quantum mechanics, and the problem of quantum measurement. He also highlighted the role of engineering and technology in the application of pPhysics, with advances in quantum computing, nuclear fusion and space exploration.

The professor of Construction Engineering also stressed the importance of research, scientific education and interdisciplinary collaboration to continue expanding the frontiers of knowledge. He emphasised that the limit of Physics is not in nature, but in the human capacity to formulate new questions and search for answers. ‘Physics is not just a science of certainties, but a constantly evolving field that challenges us to continue exploring the universe with creativity and rigour,’ he concluded.

During the celebration of the Academic CeremonyAct, several awards and recognitions were presented to teachers, students and collaborating companies and institutions: Hyspalit Awards; Schindler Awards; Award for the best transcript of the academic year 23-24; Awards for the best TFG of the academic year 23-24; Photography and Drawing of Study Trips Awards; and Aula en Movimiento Awards.

The academic secretary of the EPS, Juan de Arana Giralt, gave a summary of the Activities Report for the last year. MoreoverFor his part, Carlos Moragón, a student ofn the Degree in Information Systems Engineering, addressed a few words on behalf of all the students of the School. The EPS also paid tribute to Santiago Pariente on the occasion of his retirement and his contribution to the smooth operation of the School over 40 years of service.

The Rector, Rosa Visiedo, closed the ceremony by recalling that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Institute of technology. ‘During this time, the EPS has been an example of effort to adapt and commitment to the pursuit of excellence; and of service to society through teaching, research and the transfer of knowledge and innovation in the field of architecture and engineering,’ she said.

In hiser speech, Visiedo thanked all the staff who make up the EPS for, ‘always fulfilling your work in a committed way’; and personalising this gratitude to Santiago Pariente, ‘for his dedicated and tireless work, from which the CEU and all the people who have had the opportunity to share with him time of work, companionship and friendship have benefited’. ‘You have been and will continue to be an example for all of us,’ she said.

The Rector thanked the students and alumni of the School for ‘being the raison d'être of this University’ and congratulated all the award-winning students, ‘whose results are the fruit of personal effort, but also of the high standards and the magnificent level of the School and its teaching staff’; and the companies and institutions that collaborate so that the students receive ‘realistic and significant learning’ in the classroom, and ‘knowledge that prepares them for their professional future and allows them to generate a positive impact on society’.

Visiedo also stressed the role of research, ‘the driving force behind teaching excellence, a real and clear exponent of our comprehensive training, within a teaching environment where critical thinking and ethics have their own space’. Futhermore, she hightlighted the internationalisation effort, ‘a commitment to the future that allows us to offer an international learning experience to our students, opening their eyes to a more global and increasingly interconnected world’.

In conclusion, the rector stressed that this event is an opportunity to be humble in the face of pending challenges and objectives to be achieved, ‘always with commitment, because, without commitment, there is no future’.
