Features and benefits of the programme

Programme CEU-Fordham University

The CEU-Fordham programme offers training in the Anglo-American legal system or common law that is especially aimed at the practice of law in law firms, institutions or companies with a transnational vocation. Obtaining the LLM also opens up the possibility of taking the New York Bar Association exam, which qualifies you to practice law in the United States.

Advantages
  • Simplified admission process to the partner university as a CEU student.
  • Prior training in American law (masterclasses).
  • Compulsory Fordham medical insurance during the stay in the USA.
  • TOEFL ITP test preparation course and two ITP tests
  • Assistance from programme coordinators at USPCEU and Fordham University
  • Recognition of USPCEU credits for Fordham courses
  • Academic preparation and counselling, before and during the mobility
  • Issuance of transcripts and programme diplomas
  • Discount on official CEU fees for the duration of the programme.

Programme structure

The LLM is studied during the last academic year of the Bachelor's Degree in Law, so that with the same duration of the Degree (4 years) the student obtains a Bachelor's Degree in Law from USPCEU and a Master's Degree in Law from Fordham School of Law. During the first 3 years of their Bachelor's Degree in Law at USPCEU, students receive complementary training in common law and legal English that allows them to approach the study of the LLM at Fordham Law with maximum guarantees of success, given that in the Fordham classrooms they will be with international students who have already graduated. For this reason, Universidad CEU San Pablo has designed a programme that prepares CEU students before their arrival in the United States, improving their legal English skills and their knowledge of Anglo-Saxon law.

Legal specialisation

In addition to the Master of Laws, students can choose the area of expertise in which they wish to specialise from among the following:

  • Banking, Corporate, and Finance Law
  • Corporate Compliance
  • Fashion Law
  • Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law
  • International Business and Trade Law
  • International Dispute Resolution
  • International Law and Justice
  • U.S. Law
  • Real Estate
Duration

During the first three years of their degree at CEU, students in the programme will take common law modules in Madrid taught by CEU and/or Fordham professors, as well as improve their legal English through various activities prepared ad hoc.

In the 4th year of Law, students will travel to New York to take the LLM. The programme foresees a full academic year at Fordham to study the LLM, however, there is the option of doing only one semester of mobility, in which case they receive an academic certificate from Fordham, with the possibility of completing the LLM at a later date, within a period of 2 years.

Internship (Optional)

Students are eligible for a 12-month internship after completion of the LLM (not included in the programme fee). To be eligible for an internship, students should contact Fordham University's Career Services, who will assist them in the application process for Optional Practical Training (OPT).
