Frequently Asked Questions

An LLM is a Master of Laws in American Law for international students or foreign professionals, which allows them to take the official examination to practice law in the United States. As it is a federal state, there are different exams in the different states. Universidad CEU San Pablo has decided to offer an LLM in New York, as it is home to important Spanish law firms, Spanish-American law firms and American law firms with an international vocation.

As a result of the close and exclusive collaboration between Universidad CEU San Pablo and the partner university, USPCEU students obtain admission to a postgraduate programme during their last year of their CEU degree, thus improving their academic training and preparation for professional life.

In order to practice law in the United States, it is necessary to pass an examination of the American Bar Association. In this case, the Master LLM Fordham qualifies students to sit for the BAR exam in New York. In order to sit for the BAR exam, the student must have passed both the Master of Access to the Bar in Spain and the official bar exam, as well as the Fordham Master of Laws (LLM). In other words, the student must be qualified to practice law in Spain before being able to take the examination in the United States.

Spanish law firms and companies are increasingly international and appreciate their professionals' broadened knowledge of different legal systems. In a global world, entities work in very diverse legal contexts, which is why an LLM is very useful to open a path in the labour market. Likewise, Anglo-Saxon law is applied in countries such as the United Kingdom and Ireland, with which Spanish companies and law firms have a close relationship. Likewise, more and more Anglo-Saxon companies, corporations and law firms are opening offices in Europe and Spain. Law is becoming increasingly global, so the CEU-Fordham Programme expands the professional opportunities for students.

No. Room and board are not included in the programme, to allow each participant to choose the option that suits them best. An allowance of around $15,000 is required for room and board, transportation, books and other expenses during the stay in New York.

Students are also eligible for an additional 12 months of internships, extending the duration and cost of their stay in the United States. This investment will multiply their employment options and their applied vision of Anglo-Saxon law.

Universal health coverage does not exist in the United States and citizens are obliged to take out private health insurance if they want to receive health care. Fortunately, most American universities routinely offer international students health insurance that meets the mandatory coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The student will be automatically enrolled in the university's health plan at the time of enrolment.
