The Faculty of Humanities and Communication Sciences hosted the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Europe on Air, 2025” from June 2 to 6. Radio and Podcast professors Sara Ruiz and Cristina Rodríguez coordinated this edition of the BIP within the Erasmus+ programme, which was inaugurated by Natalia del Barrio, Deputy to the Vice-Rector for Internationalization. The event brought together 33 students and 10 radio professors from five different countries: CEU San Pablo University (Madrid, Spain), Antwerpen Plantijn Hogeschool (Antwerp, Belgium), Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) (Tbilisi, Georgia), FH Wien/Institute for Journalism & Media Management (Vienna, Austria), Haaga Helia (Helsinki, Finland), and Sofia University (Sofia, Bulgaria).
The USPCEU student team included Ana Vidal de Saá, Sara Carrasco, David Rodríguez, Santos Castro, Milena Kurvanova, and Pablo del Pozo from the Faculty of Humanities and Communication Sciences. In this edition, participants produced audio features reflecting on various topics under the theme: “What does it mean to be human and digital at the same time?” They explored concepts such as screens and mental health, truth in journalism in the age of social media, digital literacy and cybersecurity, human relationships in virtual spaces, and the intersection of ethics and AI.
On Tuesday, June 3, an Interantional Seminar was held where students attended expert-led sessions on these themes, coordinated by professors José María Legorburu and Cristina Jaramillo. Speakers included José Ángel Cuadrado, Director of Digital area at Ábside Media; Emiliano Blasco, Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation at USPCEU; researchers Gema Fernández-Blanco and Giancarlo Pazzanese from the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Netherlands); and USPCEU professors and researchers Roberto Gelado, Borja Ventura, María Solano, and Abigail Jareño.
In addition to journalistic work with specialized sources, participants enjoyed a guided tour led by PRISA’s Head of Strategy, Lourdes Moreno Cazalla, visiting Cadena SER, Los 40 Principales, and Podium Podcast, as well as guided tours around the capital.
To conclude the programme, a final session was held with a jury composed of international professors and reporters, and the BIP was officially closed by Ignacio Blanco Alfonso, Vice Dean of Faculty, Postgraduate Studies, and Research.
The goal of EUROA is to prepare, produce, and analyze new formats of university radio in English by international student teams using interactive and multimedia platforms.
The theme focuses on specialized journalism covering relevant European political issues. Previous editions have taken place in Antwerp, Jönköping, Eskisehir, Sofia, Berlin, Madrid, and Vienna. The next edition will be held in June 2026 at the University of Sofia (Bulgaria).
